Crossbody Drawstring Project Bag PDF Sewing Pattern

$8.00

Sew a drawstring bag with a crossbody or shoulder strap with this PDF sewing pattern (measure and cut).

This bag is a great size for taking a project with you—not too big and not too small.

The crossbody strap gives you the security and convenience of having the bag held close to your body. Measurements for a shoulder strap are also included in the instructions.

The front pocket is a great place to highlight a fabric fabric or small quilt, paper pieced, or patchwork block.

The top closes with a soft casing that gives you several additional inches of space at the top of the bag.

Inside there is a panel pocket encircling the entire bag body. It’s divided into four pocket sections.

This project is designed for using a heavier weight fabric (8-12 ounce) for the exterior bag body and quilting cotton for the pockets, drawstring, drawstring casing, and lining.

Lighter weight fabrics can be used for the bag body by backing the fabric with muslin or fusible interfacing. The key is to keep in mind the exterior body fabric needs to support the pocket (which is two layers of fabric + two layers of interfacing + whatever you put inside).

The lining fabric is quilted to a cotton batting and muslin backing which gives the bag additional structure and feels as soft and cozy as a handmade quilt.

It is designed to be a fairly efficient sewing project with the main body pieces and both pockets being made from just one piece of fabric each.

The strap is double interfaced and the strap footings are reinforced.

Any size clips can be used for the strap as long as they’ll open enough for the 1/2” wide footing loops. The pattern instructions are for 7/8” clips, and if you use a larger size, simply cut the strap piece 4x the measurement.

This is a measure and cut pattern. All pieces are rectangular and simple to mark out and cut with a rotary cutter and ruler, or marked with a ruler/yard stick and cut out.

Measurements are provided in inches.

Intermediate Sewing Pattern: You have experience making bags with straps, using bag hardware, and sewing box bottom corners. Not recommended for beginners.

Finished Dimensions: 8” wide x 10” high (w/o casing) x 4” deep x 26” or 45” strap (w/o clip)

Supplies: Amounts are listed in ½ yard increments for purchasing purposes. Entire amount might not be used. See Step #1 in instructions for exact measurements of each piece.
