Visible Mending Kit with Fabric
There is a new visible mending kit available in my etsy shop and this one is a smaller kit with fabric. The other kits with fabric—and these have quite a bit of fabric—are the large ones like this one.
I want to offer smaller kits for more basic mends so this one has three pieces of fabric measuring 5” x 9”. Here is a close up of the fabrics included:
One is a lightweight pinstripe denim, the middle one is a fluffy and soft woven cotton, and the third is a quilting cotton weight fabric with a subtle floral print. The floral one is reversible and the other side is slightly different shades of blue.
These are all 100% cotton fabrics—no poly here!
Inside the kit are two skeins of Olympus cotton Sashiko thread, two needle pullers, a package of Sashiko needles, and some stick and stitch patterns.
This kit does NOT have a thimble. But I do have thimbles available if you think you might want or need one! The traditional palm thimble can be found here and now I’m stocking Clover’s Flexible Thimble Set.
The palm thimble is what you want if you are loading up with lots of stitches and need something hard to push the needle against. This is the traditional way of stitching Sashiko, but you are 100% free to do it the way it works for you and stitch one stitch at a time (that’s pretty much what I do).
The Clover thimble set is really more like a needle puller in that it is helpful for gripping and pulling the shank of the needle. I think repeatedly pushing on the rubber with the eye of the needle is going to end up in a hole. That being said, the Clover set is likely more comfortable and easier to use for most people.
